Fireplace Bellows with Eagle Woodburning

To many people, fireplace bellows and fireplaces conjure up images of Colonial houses of a bygone era. These large, poorly-insulated homes were heated by flame. It's easy to imagine George Washington or Benjamin Franklin reaching for their favorite pair of fireplace bellows to revive a reluctant fire.

We wanted to create a fireplace bellows that would have fit well in those times. These bellows are made of solid maple. The eagle and banner design was a popular emblem of the early 19th century and is hand drawn with a woodburning pen (click here to view a closeup). Take yourself back to an earlier time. Colonial-style house not required.

As with our regular bellows, we finish the wood with tung oil, a natural vegetable oil that enhances the depth of the wood grain. The bag consists of 2-3 ounce leather, very supple and able to produce a strong draft. We build the bellows with a strong steel hinge (covered by the leather) for dependability and a long life. The nozzle is copper.

They come with a rawhide lace tied to the handle, making them easy to display. They measure 20-1/4" long, 7-3/8" wide, 5" deep when open, and 2" deep when closed.

Laughing Coyote Woodworks is a small woodworking business that makes its home in the Green Mountains of southwestern Vermont. Our 2-person business began in 1991. We focus on handmade wooden furniture, clocks, and accessories of our own design with a nod of recognition to the Mission and Shaker styles of furniture-making. Laughing Coyote Woodworks' creations are all handmade and hand-finished. We use the most environmentally responsible materials possible in their manufacture. These include sustainably harvested woods, salvaged woods, and vegetable oils and shellac for finishes. Laughing Coyote Woodworks is also happy to build custom orders of just about anything. If you can imagine it, we can build it! And when we say "custom design", we mean it. If you order a custom piece from us, it will be the only one like it that we build.
